Any movie that has Ben Affleck starring or even just cameoing in it, I try to go in with a really warm heart. I just really like him as an actor, and even more as a director.
But I have to say... "Hipnotic" is one of those movies that has a cool idea but fails in executing it.
For the past 10 years, I've been begging movie studios to stop increasing movie durations as the average movie length is getting dangerously close to 3 hours long.
Well, "Hipnotic" could have probably benefited from another 30 minutes of mid-story development.
With a run-time of 90 minutes, the film fails to clearly explain what the heck is exactly going on.
Like, yes, there are these people that are really good at playing mind-tricks... But some of them are more powerful than others, yet they're all capable of recreating visions and fake scenarios in people's minds that lead to all sorts of questions in the audience.
The movie has a solid balance of action and storytelling, and the cast is all great.
What really, really needed some work was explaining the underlying premise behind "Hipnotic" people. I just couldn't quite crack it in 90 minutes.
Can you have fun watching it? I think so?
I can assure you, I'm never going to watch this again. But that's not to say that I regret watching it either.
🪰 Rotten, didn't like it 🍿 Fun, give it a watch 🍅 Fresh, loved it!
