My Honest Opinion On The 2024 Oscars

Last updated on March 20, 2024

Look, I want to keep this nice and short.

But I also want to make it longer than a tweet... or a post. Or however Elon is calling it this week.

This year's Oscars have been great. And I mean it.

'Oppenheimer' has absolutely rocked it with 7 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor.

Emma Stone has also managed to take home a second Oscar this year, and I'm quite happy she did, frankly. I have yet to see 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' which makes me wonder if Lily Gladstone ever had a chance against Emma's portrayal in 'Poor Things,' but Emma just absolutely nailed it this year.

Though, in my humble opinion...

If there is one true award that makes me feel happy, it's Robert Downey Jr.'s award for Best Supporting Actor in 'Oppenheimer.'

I've watched this man play one of, if not the best comic book movie characters for well over a decade, and the Academy never gave him the recognition he deserved. Why? Because he was making comic book movie adaptations?

Tony Stark's character was Oscar-worthy. He managed to draw in hundreds of millions of people to the movie theater all by himself...

And, well, I'm just happy that Nolan considered Robert for his role in 'Oppenheimer.' He absolutely nailed it and showed us all that he can be an amazing actor outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Any disappointments? Yes.

I've already trashed 'The Zone of Interest' up and down for how bad it is. You can read my review of it here.

Yet, like most people out there, the Academy thought it deserved to win Best International Movie over Bayona's 'Society of the Snow,' which, in my opinion, was one of the best movies (top-3 maybe) to come out last year.

Let 2024 be an amazing year filled with great stories, and let's hope for an even better Oscars ceremony in 2025!
